Juanita Kidd, Longtime Oklahoma Educators Hall of Fame Member Dies

Longtime Oklahoma Educators Hall of Fame Member Juanita Kidd died on Wednesday.

“I am saddened by news of the loss of this wonderful Oklahoma education leader,” Superintendent Barresi said. “Juanita Kidd provided many years of service to the children and educators in our state serving multiple roles. She will be missed. My prayers go out to her family.”

State Supt. Barresi Thanks Legislators for Support of Instructional Coaches

State Superintendent Janet Barresi on Tuesday thanked State Senators Clark Jolley, R-Edmond, and Jim Halligan, R-Stillwater, and State Representatives Scott Martin, R-Norman, and Lee Denney, R-Cushing, for their support of the State Department of Education’s REAC3H Coaches.

The 60 professional educators – each assigned to one of 30 regions throughout the state – have been assisting Oklahoma schools with the implementation of new education reforms such as third-grade reading sufficiency and the transition to Oklahoma C3 Academic Standards.

Lawton's Eisenhower High School Named School of the Year by National Math and Science Initiative

Eisenhower High School, in the Lawton School District, was named the first National Math and Science Initiative's (NMSI) School of the Year in a ceremony at the State Capitol on Tuesday.

The award came as a result of record-setting gains in academic achievement by the school in its first year of participation in NMSI's Advanced Placement Program.

State Superintendent Barresi Requests Two-Year Delay for Teacher Evaluation System

State Superintendent Janet Barresi announced today that she will ask the authors of Senate Bill 426, Sen. John Ford and Rep. Earl Sears, to consider a two-year delay for full implementation of the Teacher and Leader Effectiveness reform that was originally enacted in 2010 in Senate Bill 2033.

Governor's ACE Awards Given to 188 School Districts

Today the Oklahoma State Department of Education released for public comment several proposed changes to the A-F Report Card rule.
