Love’s Creative SPARKS! Awards Announces Call for Entries

Love’s Creative SPARKS! Awards are open to all Oklahoma students K-12, including public, private, public charter, and homeschool students. The awards recognize students with creative ideas who use their imagination to envision a more creative learning environment that can be put into action in their school community.

Mock Election Gives Students a Voice

The My Voice™ National Student Mock Election recently opened "voter registration" for students participating in the program. The program gives students across the country the opportunity to cast their votes for candidates in both the federal and state elections, and to talk about the issues they care about this fall and beyond.

Committee Members Sought for Certification for Instructors of Native American Languages

The Oklahoma State Department of Education is in the process of developing certification for instructors of Native American Languages in Oklahoma public schools. A committee will be formed to review past certification in our state, investigate similar certification in other states, and work to develop the new certification standards in collaboration with Oklahoma’s Tribes.

AP Test Fee Assistance Offered to Oklahoma Public School Students

The State Department of Education is offering test fee assistance to Oklahoma public school students who wish to take AP exams.

There are two types of assistance. First, assistance to those in financial need.  Second, assistance to those who take multiple exams.

SDE Offers $60,000 AVID Grants

The Oklahoma State Department of Education is offering $60,000 renewable grants for public schools to increase minority participation in Advanced Placement courses through the development of an Advancement Via Individual Determination – AVID program. 

The deadline to apply is Feb. 15, 2013. Award announcements will be made Feb. 28.
