Macy;s Makes Musical Available Free to Schools, Offers Grants

Macy’s is making the script and score for “Yes, Virginia The Musical” free to all schools and will offer a grant program, awarding each of 100 participating schools a $1,000 grant to support productions of the musical. The grants will be awarded to the first 100 qualified schools that complete the application process through September 13.

Mock Election Gives Students a Voice

The My Voice™ National Student Mock Election recently opened "voter registration" for students participating in the program. The program gives students across the country the opportunity to cast their votes for candidates in both the federal and state elections, and to talk about the issues they care about this fall and beyond.

Committee Members Sought for Certification for Instructors of Native American Languages

The Oklahoma State Department of Education is in the process of developing certification for instructors of Native American Languages in Oklahoma public schools. A committee will be formed to review past certification in our state, investigate similar certification in other states, and work to develop the new certification standards in collaboration with Oklahoma’s Tribes.

Social Studies Implementation Guide Added to SDE Website

The new Implementation Guide for the Oklahoma C3 Standards for the Social Studies has been posted on the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s Website on the Social Studies page.

PBS LearningMedia and The Henry Ford are accepting entries for the 2012 Teacher Innovator Awards, which will recognize innovative PreK-12 classroom educators, media specialists, technology coordinators and homeschool educators who use digital media to enhance student learning. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 12, 2012.

Fellowship Applications Available For Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute

Applications are now available for Oklahoma fifth-grade teachers interested in receiving a fellowship to attend the 2013 Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute June 10 through 16 in the restored capital city of 18th-century Virginia. The deadline is March 1, 2013.
