Public Notice: ESEA Flexibility Extension Request

Oklahoma’s ESEA Flexibility Extension Request due to the United States Department of Education (USDE) March 31, 2015 is available for public comment.

The OSDE is in the process of amending the current Oklahoma ESEA flexibility waiver.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister today presented the proposed education budget for fiscal year 2016 to the state Senate Committee on Appropriations and House Appropriations and Budget subcommittee on education.

FY 2016 SDE State Budget Request

The Oklahoma State Board of Education approved a new FY 2016 budget request for the Oklahoma State Department of Education during its Jan. 29 meeting. This request includes the first step of state Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister’s #OKhigh5 plan, which would bring Oklahoma’s number of instructional school days to the national average and state teacher pay to the regional average.

Rising Star teachers named at Teacher of the Year ceremony

OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 16, 2014) — State Superintendent of Public Instruction Janet Barresi recognized six Rising Star Teachers from across the state during today’s state Teacher of the Year ceremony at the Oklahoma State Fair. Rising Stars are teachers who show an amazing amount of promise in their profession. They are selected in addition to the 12 finalists for the state Teacher of the Year.

Tahlequah math teacher named 2015 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year at State Fair ceremony

OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 16, 2014) – Jason Scott Proctor, 35, a Tahlequah high school math teacher, has been named the 2015 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Janet Barresi made the announcement today during a ceremony at the Oklahoma State Fair.

Oklahoma School Security Institute Launches Tip Line for Schools

OKLAHOMA CITY – July 24, 2014 – The Oklahoma School Security Institute (OSSI) recently launched www.tipline.ok.gov where reports of activity that may compromise school security can be submitted and then disseminated to appropriate parties for additional investigation.

Supt. Barresi directs OSDE to use remainder of activities funds for teachers’ health insurance

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 14, 2014) – As the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has not yet received a supplemental appropriation for teachers’ health insurance premiums, known as the Flexible Benefit Allowance (FBA), state Superintendent of Public Instruction Janet Barresi has directed OSDE to use what remains in the schools’ activities funds to pay for the health insurance of Oklahoma’s fulltime district employees.

OSDE Launches New School District Transparency Website

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 13, 2014) – The Oklahoma State Department of Education has launched a new transparency website for the public that houses all school district financial information reported through the Oklahoma Cost Accounting System (OCAS).
