OMG My Child is in Middle School

SMH, BTW, OMG, LOL … these are some of the thousands of abbreviations that our children now use when texting and online, especially those “tween and older” kids. Middle school is such a pivotal time for our youth. The kids are “stretching” their proverbial wings, but still need their PARENTAL UNITS to drive them to places they need to be.  But as parents, we want and need to stay engaged in their education.

Board Rules on Additional ACE Appeals

The Board approved recommendations on 12 appeals for waivers from Achieving Classroom Excellence graduation requirements. Of those, a committee appointed by the State Board recommended that approval be granted to three students, two of those based on extenuating circumstances and one based on acceptance to a selective university. The committee recommended that nine appeals be denied and that one appeal be dismissed because a diploma has not yet been denied.

Communications in Agriculture Can be Used to Satisfy Fine Arts or Speech Graduation Credit

The Oklahoma State Board of Education approves students majoring in agriculture who are enrolled in the course, Communications in Agriculture (code 8022), to be able to use the earned credit to satisfy the fine arts or speech competency as a graduation requirement.

Oklahoma Parents as Teachers 2012-2013 Grant Applications Now Available

The state-funded Oklahoma Parents as Teachers (OPAT) grant for the 2012-2013 school year is now available. One million dollars ($1,000,000.00) in state funds was allocated to be awarded to school districts who apply for the competitive grant. All schools are encouraged to apply.
