Oklahoma Reading Association to Hold Writing Conference


The Oklahoma Reading Association is holding the Six Traits of Writing conference with Ruth Culham on Sept. 15, 2012, at the University of Central Oklahoma, in the Nigh University Center, 100 N University Drive, Edmond, OK. Attendees are asked to park in Visitor Lot No. 10.

Cost for nonmembers is $120; cost for members of the Oklahoma Reading Association is $100.

Culham, Ed.D., is author of “6+1 Traits of Writing: The Complete Guide, Grades 3 and Up;” “6+1 Traits of Writing: The Complete Guide for the Primary Grades;” and “Traits of Writing: The Complete Guide for Middle Schools,” winner of the 2011 Teacher’s Choice Award. Her most recent book is “Traits Writing,” from Scholastic, for grades K-8.

Lunch is included for those who register before Sept. 10. The event also will include professional development to assist in the implementation of the Common Core writing process, door prizes, and exhibits. 

The Oklahoma Reading Association is also looking for creative ideas for table topics to be displayed during the conference. Those interested in sharing their ideas for teaching the writing process through reading, science, social studies or math are encouraged to submit proposals to www.oklahomareadingassociation.org.
