One of the most frequently asked question from educators lately is, "Where are the Pre-Kindergarten Common Core Standards?"
As many Oklahomans know, Oklahoma is often regarded as a national model for Early Childhood programs – in fact, there are 10 states with no state Pre-Kindergarten program at all, where in Oklahoma we are serving over 70 percent of our 4-year-olds in our Pre-Kindergarten program. Still, the Common Core State Standards were written for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.
This summer, the Oklahoma State Department of Education will host a two-day "Early Childhood Work Days" on July 16-17 in Oklahoma City.
The primary focus of these two days will be to draft proposed revisions to the current Oklahoma C3 Pre-Kindergarten standards in English/Language Arts and Mathematics as well as develop a Building Academic Vocabulary for Pre-Kindergarten.
Administrators, educators, and community members are all welcome to participate, but registration will be limited. Email Erin Nation to be added for registration information in the coming months – as well as a call for small group facilitators.
