Applications for Class 1 of OKMath and OKSci Leadership Now Open

OKMath and OKSci Leadership was piloted by the Oklahoma State Department of Education in 2013-2014 to create and support a dynamic network of Oklahoma Math and Science educators. OKMath and OKSci Leadership selects, challenges, develops and educates Oklahoma math and science educators who have demonstrated an interest in leadership skills related to mathematics and science education.

Supt. Barresi directs OSDE to use remainder of activities funds for teachers’ health insurance

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 14, 2014) – As the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has not yet received a supplemental appropriation for teachers’ health insurance premiums, known as the Flexible Benefit Allowance (FBA), state Superintendent of Public Instruction Janet Barresi has directed OSDE to use what remains in the schools’ activities funds to pay for the health insurance of Oklahoma’s fulltime district employees.

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 6, 2014) – The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) will soon establish telephone hotlines for educators and parents who have questions about the third-grade promotion portion of the Reading Sufficiency Act (RSA).

OSDE literacy staff and REAC3H Coaches will answer questions and concerns, provide support for electronic submission of reports and help with communication for parents and citizens.

The RSA Hotlines will be active from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, Monday, May 12, through Friday, May 23.

Lane Matheson, teacher at Tulsa Memorial, congratulated on international robotics educator award

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 2, 2014) – Lane Matheson, a teacher at Memorial High School and Engineering Academy in Tulsa Public Schools, received a special award for her excellence in teaching at an international high school robotics competition in St. Louis, Mo., last week.

Matheson received the Woodie Flowers Award at the FIRST World Championship. The prize is given every year to one robotics team mentor who uses excellent communications skills to “inspire and empower” about engineering and design.

Supt. Barresi calls for $6.5 million supplemental request to cover health insurance costs for schools


OKLAHOMA CITY (April 30, 2014) — State Superintendent of Public Instruction Janet Barresi is urging state lawmakers to approve a $6.5 million supplemental budget appropriation to the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) to fund its Flexible Benefits Allowance (FBA) this fiscal year.

Keynotes Announced for Summer Vision 2020 Education Conference


OKLAHOMA CITY (April 29, 2014) — The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) announced today the keynote speakers for this year’s Vision 2020 conference.

Vision 2020, OSDE’s annual summer conference open to anyone interested in education, will take place July 15 – 17 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City. One general session featuring a keynote speaker will be held daily.
