Proposed changes to the state’s Pre-Kindergarten standards open for public comment

The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has posted on the agency’s website the newly proposed draft of the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Pre-Kindergarten.

The draft is available on the OSDE’s Early Childhood and Family Education Webpage at http://www.ok.gov/sde/early-childhood-and-family-education.

OSDE works to ensure testing issues resolved

The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has been working closely with its testing vendors to ensure as many potential issues as possible are resolved before computer-based assessments are administered beginning next month.

Recipients of State Superintendent Awards for Arts Excellence Recognized in State Ceremony

State Superintendent Janet Barresi will honor 121 high school seniors from 41 communities Thursday night at the State Superintendent Awards for Arts Excellence Ceremony at the Scottish Rite Temple in Guthrie.

The students will receive a total of 131 awards.

The State Superintendent Awards for Arts Excellence recognize high school seniors who have achieved artistic and academic excellence and have contributed service to their communities.

Oklahoma Grades 6-8 and EOI Tests Suspended for the Day

As a result of online testing disruptions for students in grades 6-8 and high school end-of-instruction (EOIs) exams, State Superintendent Janet Barresi has directed testing vendor CTB/McGraw Hill to suspend online testing for today.

“We certainly share in the frustration that students and school districts feel,” Barresi said. “It is of paramount importance that CTB finds the nature of the problem and resolves it as quickly as possible.”

Keynotes Announced for Summer Vision 2020 Education Conference


OKLAHOMA CITY (April 29, 2014) — The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) announced today the keynote speakers for this year’s Vision 2020 conference.

Vision 2020, OSDE’s annual summer conference open to anyone interested in education, will take place July 15 – 17 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City. One general session featuring a keynote speaker will be held daily.

Supt. Barresi calls for $6.5 million supplemental request to cover health insurance costs for schools


OKLAHOMA CITY (April 30, 2014) — State Superintendent of Public Instruction Janet Barresi is urging state lawmakers to approve a $6.5 million supplemental budget appropriation to the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) to fund its Flexible Benefits Allowance (FBA) this fiscal year.
