On Monday, I attended two ceremonial bill signings at the State Capitol to celebrate legislation I feel is of vital importance to Oklahomans.

State Board of Education Meeting Highlights June 12, 2013

Fiscal Year 2014 Education Appropriation Approved
State Board of Education members in a special meeting on Wednesday approved spending for the more than $2.4 billion education appropriation for fiscal year 2014. The budget includes $74 million more than last year.

NHS and State Superintendent Janet Barresi receive big check from NeighborWorks AmericaState Superintendent Janet Barresi attended a ceremony Thursday at which funds were given to refurbish homes for teachers, school support staff  and others displaced by recent.

21st Century Community Learning Center Grant Process Open

 

 

The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has opened the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) competitive grant process for the 2013-2014 school year.

The 21st CCLC programs provide safe and engaging learning opportunities for students during their out-of-school hours. These programs offer academic enrichment activities and services such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education, tutoring, health and fitness education, mentoring, service learning and character education that align with the regular school day.

Oklahoma Parents Invited to FREE Parent Power Night

 

Parents of Oklahoma students are invited to attend Parent Power Night at the State Department of Education’s Vision 2020 Conference.

Parent Power Night is Tuesday, July 9 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City. The event will start with a reception, attended by State Superintendent Janet Barresi from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Informational sessions will be from 6 to 6:45 and 7 to 7:45 p.m.

Think Through Math Students Donate to Tornado Victims
Think Through Math representatives presented a check for $11,873 to the Central Oklahoma Chapter of the American Red Cross at the June 27, 2013, State Board of Education meeting.

Former Assistant State Superintendent Dr. Ramona Paul Passes Away

 

State Superintendent Janet Barresi learned of the death of Dr. Ramona Paul on Sunday night. Dr. Paul was a former Oklahoma Assistant State Superintendent of Education.

“I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Dr. Paul,” Barresi said. “She is the pioneer who made early childhood education possible for the state of Oklahoma. We want to recognize all of her tremendous contributions to the profession and to students and families throughout our state. Our prayers and thoughts go out to her family.”
