Current Version OF GED® Test to Expire at End of 2013

 

The current version of the GED® test will expire at the end of 2013. 

The 2002 Series GED® test will be replaced with the new 2014 GED® test on January 2, 2014.

May 2013 Storms Cause Millions of Dollars of Damage to Oklahoma School Sites

 

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Janet Barresi announced today that as of a last count on June 6 as many as 56 school sites were damaged by the severe storms and tornados that ripped through the state from May 19 to 31. Three of those sites were completely destroyed in Moore. In addition, the El Reno campus of the Canadian Valley Technology Center was destroyed.

Fiscal Year 2014 Education Appropriation Approved
State Board of Education members in a special meeting on Wednesday approved spending for the more than $2.4 billion education appropriation for fiscal year 2014. The budget includes $74 million more than last year.

Free Clothing for Those Affected by Storms

Hugs and Kisses (XO) Oklahoma has partnered with Infant Crisis Services to provide a pampered shopping experience, free of charge, for women who lost clothing in May due to tornadoes and storms.

XO Oklahoma will set up a “pop-up boutique” Friday, June 28 through Sunday, June 30 to provide clothing, shoes, accessories and beauty products to business women, educators and moms as they strive to get back to their daily lives. This boutique will be in the Chatenay Square Shopping Plaza located at S.W. 104th and South Pennsylvania, Suite 9, Oklahoma City.

21st Century Community Learning Center Grant Process Open

 

 

The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has opened the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) competitive grant process for the 2013-2014 school year.

The 21st CCLC programs provide safe and engaging learning opportunities for students during their out-of-school hours. These programs offer academic enrichment activities and services such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education, tutoring, health and fitness education, mentoring, service learning and character education that align with the regular school day.

Oklahoma Parents Invited to FREE Parent Power Night

 

Parents of Oklahoma students are invited to attend Parent Power Night at the State Department of Education’s Vision 2020 Conference.

Parent Power Night is Tuesday, July 9 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City. The event will start with a reception, attended by State Superintendent Janet Barresi from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Informational sessions will be from 6 to 6:45 and 7 to 7:45 p.m.
