The Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science is the highest recognition that a kindergarten through 12th-grade mathematics or science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States. Each year, awards are given to mathematics and science teachers from each of the 50 states.

Outstanding science and mathematics teachers are in every school system throughout our State. Help us identify and recognize these hard-working educators.

To be eligible for the award this year, teachers must have completed **5 years** of Kindergarten through 12th-grade teaching prior to this year and currently be teaching **7th-12th** grade science, mathematics, or computer science.

To nominate an outstanding Oklahoma science or mathematics teacher, visit the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) website today!

This awards program is open to practicing public, private and parochial school teachers with a minimum of five years teaching experience.

State finalists are chosen on the basis of their teaching performance, background and experience by a state selection committee. Application packets for each finalist are then forwarded for judging to the National Science Foundation. A national committee selects one math and one science teacher as the Oklahoma Presidential Awardees. The competition alternates each year between teachers of grades K-6 and teachers of grades 7-12. For more information please visit the PAEMST website.

The Awardees each receive an official notification from the White House, a $10,000 grant, and an expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C.

The following educators have been selected by a national committee as outstanding mathematics and science teachers and will serve as models for their colleagues and leaders for the improvement of mathematics and science education. *Awards for the 2012 award cycles are still pending and anticipated to be announced later this year.*
