Volunteers in Police Service

Enhancing public safety
one person at a time.

Protecting our cities, states and nation is a responsibility we all share. Our security is not dependent upon only law enforcement agencies but upon every citizen. As a member of Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS), you can help your local authorities make your hometown a safer place. Learn more about VIPS and how you can get involved.

Citizen Corps About VIPS

The VIPS program acts as a gateway to information for citizens interested in law enforcement volunteer programs. Those willing to offer their time and skills can assist local law enforcement in a variety of ways including:

  • Administrative duties
  • Citizen patrols
  • Community liaison activities
  • Neighborhood watch
  • Research
  • Youth education
  • Disaster response
  • Victim assistance
  • And more…

VIPS is funded by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and managed and implemented by the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
