Reentry is a term used for the process of transitioning offenders from prison back to the community.  In Oklahoma, reentry begins with entry into the prison system through a series of assessments to determine the offender's areas of risk for returning to prison after release.  Once the offender's risk areas are identified, a plan is designed to meet the offender's needs throughout his/her incarceration.

The plan identifies the programs, such as substance abuse treatment, education, vocational training, and anger management which will best prepare the offender for a successful release to the community.  For many reasons, such as amount of time to serve, offenders do not complete all the programs that are recommended prior to discharge. These programs will need to be completed in the community where the offender will return.
