(Oklahoma City, Oklahoma/February 28, 2014) A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®) will arrive March 9, 2014, to examine all aspects of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation’s policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services, Director Stan Florence announced today.
Verification by the team that the OSBI meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to maintain accreditation---a highly valued recognition of public safety professional excellence.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments to the assessment team by telephone. The public may call this toll-free number, 1-866-805-6401, Tuesday, March 11, 2014, between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m.
Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. The standards are available at OSBI Headquarters, 6600 N. Harvey, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Persons wishing to offer written comments about the OSBI’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation are requested to write: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia, 20155.
The assessment team is composed of public safety practitioners from similar but out-of-state agencies. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, and visit offices and other locations where compliance can be witnessed.
Accreditation is for three years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
