Agents Investigate Delaware County Jail Escape
Just before 8 o’clock Wednesday evening, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office requested OSBI assistance with the escape of two jail inmates. One of these inmates was in jail for homicide. The two escaped the jail by severely beating two jail guards and stealing a deputy’s vehicle. The two guards were transported to a local hospital. No condition reports are available at this time. The two escapees were then stopped by Delaware County deputies along Highway 59 between Jay and Kansas, Oklahoma, where one of the inmates appears to have committed suicide. The medical examiner’s office will determine cause/manner of his death. The other inmate was captured by law enforcement. Several OSBI agents are en route to both crime scenes. No other information is available at this time.
