Agents Investigate Sallisaw Officer Shooting

At approximately 1 p.m. Monday (2/21), Sallisaw Officer Wendel Hughes, off duty at the time, was shot while driving along Highway 64 in Sallisaw. Mark Sweeney was arrested by Sallisaw police soon after for that shooting.  Sweeney (d.o.b. 09-07-70) lives in the Sallisaw area. He and the victim know each other. OSBI agents are working to determine their relationship and the reasoning behind the shooting. Hughes was taken to a local hospital in Sallisaw where he is listed in stable condition.
