OSBI Helps Capture Federal Fugitive in Ada
Just before 11 o’clock this morning, OSBI agents and other federal and state authorities apprehended a violent bank robbery suspect from California hiding in Ada. An OSBI agent received information earlier this week about where to find 35-year-old Rashad Lamar Branagh. Agents located Branagh in Ada and notified federal authorities. This morning they made the arrest.
Branagh and two others robbed at gunpoint a bank in Laguna Hills, California, May 13th. Branagh fled the area in an SUV. A state trooper there pulled over the vehicle along 405 Freeway and Long Beach’s Eastside. There, Branagh fired several shots at the trooper. The trooper was not injured. Two suspects were taken into custody later that day. Branagh got away and fled to his uncle’s apartment in the 700 block of East 16th in Ada.
When Branagh left the apartment this morning, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper made a traffic stop in the area of 16th and Turner based on the federal bank robbery warrant. Agents descended upon the area for a quick arrest. “A coordinated effort by many agencies made this arrest possible and allowed authorities to take a violent person off the streets,” Jessica Brown, OSBI PIO, says.
If you Google Branagh, you will find a picture of him and more information on the California bank robbery and shoot out with a state trooper. During his criminal career, Branagh has been arrested for murder.
