OSBI Takes Part in Kids to Work Day
Two dozen child relatives of OSBI employees participated in the second annual OSBI Take Your Kid to Work Day in correlation with the national observance. The bureau opened its doors to not only the children of employees but also their grandchildren and other close relatives since the bureau is a relatively small agency.
This year the kids, ranging in age from 9 to 17 years, learned about Internet predators and how to use the Internet safely.
OSBI Forensic Artist showed the kids how he draws suspect sketches and reconstructs skulls of unidentified remains. Part of the third floor of OSBI Headquarters was positioned into a crime scene where agents taught the children different techniques in evidence collection such as photography and latent print collection.
After lunch, the kids gathered at the OSBI Forensic Science Center in Edmond where criminalists taught them more about crime scene investigations and how to test evidence collected from a scene.
OSBI hopes this one day of training gives the kids an idea of what their relatives do to help solve crime in Oklahoma and to inspire them to serve their community.
