Identity Sought on Body in Cherokee County

Saturday, September 30th, a hunter came across a decomposing body in a heavily wooded area in northern Cherokee County between Peggs and Tahlequah about 300 yards from 485 road.  OSBI and the sheriff’s office are investigating this as a suspicious death. The medical examiners’ office will determine cause of death.

In the meantime, investigators are trying to identify the victim.  The man was fully clothed and was wearing black Harley Davidson boots and a medallion.   A picture of boots just like what the victim was wearing can be found on the OSBI website at www.osbi.ok.gov as well as a picture of the actual medallion the victim wore.  Agents believe these could help identify the person.

If anyone has information as to the victim’s identity, please call either the OSBI hotline at 1-800-522-8017 or the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office at 918-456-2583.
