Obtaining Criminal History Information
The Oklahoma Open Records Act was established to ensure and facilitate the public's right of access to and review of government records. The privacy interests of individuals are adequately protected in the specific exceptions to the Oklahoma Open Records Act or in the Statutes which create or require the records.
The OSBI is the central repository for Criminal History Record Information (CHRI) in the state of Oklahoma. Title 74 § 150.9 of the Oklahoma Statutes outlines the fee to be collected by the Bureau for each Criminal History Record request. Pursuant to the Oklahoma Open Records Act, Title 51 § 24.A.5.2, all requests for CHRI must include at least the full name and date of birth of the subject to be searched. Additional identifiers such as aliases (i.e. maiden names, nicknames) and social security numbers, if known, should be provided resulting in a more complete search of the Criminal History Record files.
