ASSISTANT DEPUTY DIRECTOR (ODVA), #N10

BASIC PURPOSE:

This is a single incumbent job family in the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs with the employee assigned to the position being responsible for directing various agency support programs and services and assisting the agency director in planning and coordinating direct care programs and operations. This includes responsibility for planning and directing agency personnel, accounting, data processing, finance, safety, construction and environment, medical services and other similar agency level programs. Responsibility for directing continued agency operations is assigned in the absence of the Executive Director. Direct supervision will be provided to agency department heads.

The Assistant Deputy Director, ODVA job family consists of only one level with the incumbent employee being responsible for all of the functions related to the position as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of federal and, state statues and regulations pertaining to veterans benefits and services, War Veterans Commission rules and agency policies; of pertinent policies of cabinet level agencies; of the legislative process; of public administration; and of the principles of management and supervision. Ability is required to organize and direct the work of department heads or other upper level management positions; to plan and coordinate agency health care and administrative programs; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and to communicate effectively; both orally and in writing.

Education and Experience: requirements consist of a master's degree and five years of professional-level experience in public health administration, social work or veterans program administration, including three years in a supervisory capacity or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one additional year of qualifying experience for each year of the required education.

NOTE: Professional experience in the fields listed must have been the primary job responsibility to be considered as qualifying. Incidental performance of professional work in any area shall not be considered. No substitution will be allowed for the required period of supervisory experience.
