VOCATIONAL TRAINING INSTRUCTOR, #K28

BASIC PURPOSE:

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities related to the instruction of patients or inmates in the principles and techniques of one or more skilled trades or crafts at a state hospital or institution.

This job family differs from Vocational Rehabilitation Teacher in that it does not require the possession of an Oklahoma Teaching Certificate and that the programs in which incumbents are involved do not require accreditation.

This job family consists of only one level and incumbent employees will be responsible for performing all essential functions related to the position to which assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required include knowledge of the trade in which instruction is offered and in which students expect to gain employment; of instruction techniques; and of the special problems of the facility population served. Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to develop successful training techniques; and to supervise and instruct students.

Education and Experience requirements consist of four years of experience in the trade to be taught or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of trade school or vocational technical school training in the trade to be taught for a maximum of one year of the experience.

SPECIAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:

Selection will be based on expertise in the particular trade requiring instruction. Selection processes for this classification will be for these options: Heating and Refrigeration, Drafting, Printing, Carpentry, Plumbing, Auto Body, Auto Repair, Bakery, Dry Cleaning and Laundry, Masonry, Welding, Electricity, Upholstery, Barbering, Electronics, or printing.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS:

Some positions may require proficiency in manual sign language as demonstrated by the successful completion of a competency test administered by the Rehabilitation Services Division of the Department of Human Services.
