CORRECTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR, #I50

BASIC PURPOSE:

Positions within this job family are responsible for serving as administrators of health care units at correctional institutes or facilities.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS:

The Correctional Health Services Administrator job family has three levels. The levels are distinguished by complexity of work, degree of responsibility and the average size of the inmate population served.

Level I:             Code: I50A             Salary Band: M

At this level incumbents serve as administrators of health care units which service an average inmate population of less than 700.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the principles and practices of public health administration; of budget preparation and planning; of primary health care programs; of personnel practices; of management techniques and practices; of the control and prevention of major health problems; of standard medical practices; and of current literature on communicable disease control and epidemiology. Ability is required to administer established principles and practices of health care; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a master’s degree in public health, health administration or public administration or a closely related field and two years of professional experience in public health, health care or health-related areas; or a bachelor’s degree in public health, business or public administration and three years of professional experience in public health, health care or health-related areas; or possession of a valid permanent Oklahoma license as approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Nurse Registration and Nursing Education to practice professional nursing and five years of professional nursing experience, including three years in public health, health care or a health related area; or eligibility for certification as a Physician’s Assistant by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Examiners and three years of professional experience in public health, health care or health-related areas.

Level II:             Code: I50B             Salary Band: N

At this level incumbents serve as administrators of health care units which service an average inmate population of at least 700 but less than 1,400.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level I.

Education and Experience requirements at this level are the same as those at Level I.

Level III:             Code: I50C             Salary Band: O

At this level incumbents serve as administrators of a health care unit which service an average inmate population of over 1,400 or directs a health care facility or medical unit that provides acute infirmary services within a correctional institution or facility.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level I.

Education and Experience requirements at this level are the same as those at Level I
