basic purpose:
Positions in this job family
are assigned responsibilities involving the installation, maintenance and repair
of plumbing systems and related components in a state agency or facility.
typical functions:
The functions within this
job family will vary by level, but may include the following:

Installs, maintains and performs
repairs on potable water lines, wastewater lines and a variety of plumbing
fixtures, such as sinks, lavatories, toilet units, bathtubs, shower units,
automatic flush valves, faucets, traps and natural gas piping.
·
Maintains and performs plumbing
repairs on laundry equipment, sterilization equipment, kitchen equipment, dairy
equipment, cannery equipment and any other equipment utilizing potable water and
waste disposal lines.
·
Maintains and performs minor
repairs on irrigation systems, water treatment plants and sewage plants.
·
Interprets blueprints and
written instructions concerning construction, alteration, maintenance and repair
projects; prepares and submits time and material estimates for projects.
·
Supervises the work of plumbing
apprentices, maintenance repair technicians, laborers, patients and students
assigned to the plumbing crew.
·
Consults with engineers and
suppliers on various system needs.

Level I:

Salary Band: G
This is the basic level of
this job family where employees are assigned responsibilities for performing
apprentice level work in performing minor repairs and maintenance on various
plumbing systems in a state agency or facility or provide assistance to fully
qualified plumbers in the completion of more complex work.
Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities required at this
level include knowledge of the methods, materials, fixtures, tools and equipment
used in plumbing work; of standard plumbing techniques; and of job safety
measures. Ability is required to maintain and perform minor repairs of
various plumbing systems and fixtures; and to follow written and oral
instructions.
Education and
Experience requirements at this
level consist of registration as a Plumbing Apprentice with the
Oklahoma Construction
Industries Board.
Level II:
Code: F76B
Salary Band: H
This is the career level of
this job family where employees are assigned duties as a journeyman plumber with
responsibilities for performing a full range of work in the installation,
maintenance and repair of various plumbing systems and fixtures in a state
agency or facility. This may include some responsibilities for providing
training and direction to apprentice plumbers or nonlicensed technicians
assigned to assist on some projects, such as laborers, maintenance repair
technicians, inmates, students or others.
Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities required at this
level include those identified in Level I plus knowledge of the principles of
the plumbing trade; of occupational hazards of the trade; and ability to train
and direct nonlicensed personnel.
Education and
Experience requirements at this
level consist of licensure as a Journeyman Plumber with the
Oklahoma Construction
Industries Board.
Level III:
Code: F76C
Salary Band: I
This is the specialist level of this job
family where employees are assigned responsibilities for performing advanced
level independent work in the installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing
systems and fixtures. This includes nonsupervisory positions where
incumbents are regularly assigned to work alone or on an independent basis as
the only plumber at an agency or facility with overall responsibility for
planning and completing required maintenance and repair functions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
required at this level include those identified in Level II plus ability is
required to perform highly independent work.
Education and
Experience requirements at this
level consist of active or inactive licensure as a Plumbing Contractor with the
Oklahoma Construction Industries Board.
NOTE:
Eligible applicants must possess an active Plumbing Contractor license issued by
the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board at the time of appointment.
Level IV:
Code: F76D
Salary Band: J
This is the leadership level
of this job family where employees are assigned responsibilities involving the
design, installation, repair and/or renovation of plumbing within a state agency
or institution as well as the supervision of others in performing such work.
This will include overall responsibilities for plumbing systems with the
assigned area of responsibility and the supervision and training of assigned
staff.
Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities required at this
level include those identified in Level III plus knowledge of laws, rules and
regulations governing the planning, installation, repair, and maintenance of
plumbing; and of supervisory principles and practices. Ability is required
to supervise others; to interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications; to
supervise others; and to keep records and write reports.

Experience requirements at this
level consist of those identified in Level III.

In order to operate state-owned vehicles in
the performance of regularly assigned duties, some positions may require that
the successful applicant possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license at the time
of appointment.
