INTERIOR
DESIGNER
Basic
Purpose:
Positions
in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the planning,
organizing and directing of a statewide interior design program. The primary duties of this position will
center around the design rather than the construction of interior space. This position may plan, design and prepare
drawings and specifications for the alteration or construction of interior
spaces in a building. If the estimated cost for such construction, remodeling
or repairing of interior spaces exceeds the amount outlined in 59 O.S. Supp.
1989, Section 46.3, then the planning, designing and preparation of drawings
and specifications for that project must be done under the supervision and control
of a licensed architect who must approve and stamp the final plans.
typical Functions:
· Plans
organizes and directs space renovation design programs for facilities operated
by the agency; interprets theme design for resorts into a planned program of
space allocation; prepares a budget for the entire renovation project including
an estimate of cost of construction and cost of furnishings and decorations.
· Works with
architects, structural engineers, electrical contractors and mechanical
contractors to develop specifications for renovations; ensures compliance with
applicable codes and ensures a safe, well designed environment; prepares
professional service contracts when necessary.
· Provides
technical assistance to division directors and their staff regarding the design
of interior space, furniture systems, interior furnishings, space layouts,
project management and the documentation of such plans.
· Prepares long
range plans for the renovation of interior spaces; prioritizes projects
according to need; works with resort managers to define and interpret the
facility's theme; prepares presentation boards outlining the specifics of such
designs for presentation to the facility manager and division staff.
· Coordinates
work of renovation projects with the facility manager to minimize disruption to
the facility and its guests.

The
Interior Designer job family consists of only one level and incumbent employees
are responsible for performing all functions related to the position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at
this level include knowledge of the development and coordination of interior
design programs; of interior design factors and techniques; of contemporary
design trends and historical design periods; of cost estimation and budgeting;
and of managerial principles and practices.
Ability is required to plan, organize and direct a statewide interior
design program involving multiple facilities; to collect data and organize
projects; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; to establish
and maintain effective working relationships with others; and to solve problems
related to work design and implementation.
Education and Experience requirements
at this level consist of a bachelor's degree in interior design and three years
experience in professional interior design; or an equivalent combination of
education and experience, substituting one additional year of qualifying
experience for each year of the required education.
