OFFSET PRESS OPERATOR, #E34

BASIC PURPOSE:

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the operation of offset printing presses and other reproduction/peripheral equipment.

LEVEL Descriptors:

The Offset Press Operator job family consists of four levels which are distinguished by the level of complexity of specific job assignments, the extent of responsibility assigned, the level of expertise required for the completion of assigned projects, and the responsibility for the supervision of others.

LEVEL I            Code: E34A            Salary Band: F

This is the basic level of this job family where incumbents primarily perform entry-level work in a training status to build their skills in the operation of offset printing equipment. In this role they are assigned duties related to the printing of simple jobs, restocking, and inventory of supplies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of setup, operation, and minor maintenance of a variety of offset presses; of methods and techniques used in preparing, cleaning, and preserving lithographic plates; and of basic mathematics and of basic grammar, spelling and punctuation. Ability is required to operate and perform minor repairs and adjustments to offset presses.

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of one year of experience in the operation of an offset press; or the completion of a vocational or technical education program in offset printing.

LEVEL II            Code: E34B            Salary Band: G

This is the career level where incumbents perform a full range of offset printing assignments of a complex nature. This includes print jobs requiring multiple color, set-up and operation of offset printing presses of a class 17" x 22" or larger, or presses with a T-head attachment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level I, plus knowledge of the operation of offset printing presses of a class 17" x 22" or larger; of multicolor printing; of T-head attachments; of the hazards of operating a large offset press; and of modern office procedures;. Ability is required to plan and execute a sequence of press operations; and to train and instruct others in the operation of offset presses.

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I, plus two additional years of experience in the operation of offset presses.

Level III            Code: E34C            Salary Band: H

This is the specialist level where employees are assigned responsibilities involving advanced technical work related to processes and systems such as 4-color process printing or similar involving a high degree of complexity.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level II plus ability to operate specialized multi-process presses and related equipment.

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level II plus one additional year of experience.

LEVEL IV            Code: E34D            Salary Band: I

This is the leadership level where incumbents are assigned responsibility for the supervision of other lower-level staff in the operation of offset printing equipment. This will include reviewing and evaluating print requests to determine the most cost efficient method of producing high quality jobs, advising staff on requirements and evaluating the results of completed work.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level III plus knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level III plus one additional year of experience in the operation of offset presses.
