Mentor executive, #E28
basic purpose:
Positions in this job family are assigned duties related to the performance of managerial duties in an agency participating in the state mentor program. They plan, organize and direct work assignments.
Typical functions:
Researches and analyzes issues, questions, and situations that come to the mentor executive’s attention and develops recommendations or responses for the director of the agency or major agency program to provide to members of the legislature or other state officials.
Assists in planning, monitoring, and coordinating programmatic and administrative activities and services of an agency or the legislature.
Assists in the development of policies, rules, procedures, and activities consistent with federal and state laws pertaining to the administration of an agency or major agency program, or to legislative issues.
Identifies, analyzes, and makes recommendations related to the work of an agency or major agency program; recommends improvements and changes in agency program operations as necessary.
Plans, organizes, and supervises special projects and studies as directed by the assigned agency mentor; reviews and analyzes information from projects and studies for immediate and long-range program development.
Participates in management meetings involving the development of policy regulations and programs.
Represents agency or agency program director in various meetings, both within and outside the agency.
Interprets agency policy to employees and others; consults with agency officials regarding work activities and findings; participates in training of employees.
Establishes liaison with appropriate staffs, committees, agencies and members senators; meets with lobbyists in areas of his or her specialization.
Serves as a liaison to other program areas or agencies.
Coordinates and supervises the activities of professional staff; assigns work, evaluates assigned employee performance and provides necessary supervision and training.

This job family consists of one level and employees participating in the state mentor program are responsible for performing all functions related to the position to which assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the basic principles and practices of Oklahoma state government organization and management; of basic public administration procedures and practices; of the methods and techniques of research and analysis; of effective communication practices; and of the operations of the state agency. Ability is required to collect, analyze and interpret various information and select the appropriate course of action; to analyze and interpret complex written materials such as policies, rules and statutes; to plan and organize research projects; to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; to organize and present facts and opinions clearly and effectively; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to supervise and review the work of others; to carry out several projects simultaneously; to exercise initiative and work independently; and to consolidate information on specific issues into a report, rule proposal or draft piece of legislation.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of possession of a bachelor’s degree and three years of professional experience in Oklahoma Government; and currently hold a professional-level position.
Special Requirements:
Received at least a "Meets Standards", or its equivalent, rating on his or her most recent performance evaluation since January 1, 2000.
Completion of a post-offer, pre-hire, work-related criminal background investigation.
