VIDEO PRODUCTION SPECIALIST, #C42
BASIC PURPOSE:
Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the production of videos for use in employee training programs and/or to provide information to the public. This includes writing and editing scripts, researching information and materials, and producing video tapes to meet established goals and objectives.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:
The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:
Determines training objectives for various topics or purposes and develops plans for meeting objectives; researches information and materials related to the topic or purpose.
Writes, edits and rewrites scripts, lesson plans and other materials; confers with agency officials and others to insure that materials support objectives.
Plans, organizes and directs video taping; makes decisions concerning production, such as site location, talent and camera positions; performs computerized professional editing to include narration, music selection, computer graphics and video footage.
Operates a variety of audiovisual equipment, such as cameras, lighting/sound equipment, industrial video recorders, computerized editors, special effects generators, switches, time base correctors, wave forms, vector scopes and duplication equipment.
Determines operating needs of the video section; prepares requisitions for supplies and equipment.
LEVEL DESCRIPTORS:
The Video Production job family has three levels which are distinguished based on the complexity of the work assigned, the experience required to perform the work and the responsibility for the leadership of others.
Level I: Code: C42A Salary Band: I
This is the basic level of this job family where employees are assigned responsibility for performing beginning level video production work under close supervision in a training status. This includes assisting in the research and writing of scripts and in the production of video tape programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of audiovisual production methods and techniques and equipment; of the principles of adult education and training; of techniques for researching and gathering information for scripts; of techniques for dissemination of information; and of the principles and techniques for editing and composition of scripts. Ability is required to research, write and edit scripts for training videos; and to communicate effectively.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelors degree in mass communications, journalism, or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one additional year of experience in video production or video script writing for each year of the required education.
Level II: Code: C42B Salary Band: J
This is the career level of this job family where employees are assigned responsibilities at the full performance level for development and completion of assigned projects, including design, content and production. This may include supervision of technical media personnel assigned to the project and other video production specialists during the production phase of the project.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus demonstrated ability to plan, write and complete video production projects.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus two additional years of qualifying experience in video production.
Level III: Code: C42C Salary Band: L
This is the leadership level of this job family where employees are assigned responsibility for the supervision of other video production specialists in the development and production of video programs on a regular and consistent basis. This will include assigning and reviewing work, evaluating performance, coordination of activities, and other administrative tasks.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level II plus knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level II plus one additional year of qualifying experience in video production.
