EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM COORDINATOR, #C12

BASIC PURPOSE:

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the planning and coordination of employee assistance programs, dealing with problems such as alcoholism, or drug abuse and other medical, mental or personal problems. This includes implementing programs to assist state agencies in providing assistance to affected employees, counseling eligible employees and family members, developing directories of various service providers and developing treatment plans for clients to resolve the problem identified.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS:

The Employee Assistance job family has two levels which are distinguished by the complexity of work and the responsibility for the supervision of others. Entry into this job family is at the career level.

Level I:             Code: C12A             Salary Band: K

This is the career level of this job family where employees are assigned responsibilities at the full performance level for assisting in the development and implementation of the state employee assistance program and providing counseling and assistance to eligible employees in resolving or treating various problems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and guidelines; of human behavior and effective counseling techniques; of the current methods and techniques used in effective prevention and treatment programs; of community organization and resource development; of modern principles of training and education; of program evaluation methods and report writing. Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to conduct several projects simultaneously; to organize and present facts clearly and concisely; to analyze complex problems and adopt an effective course of action; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and to make oral presentations.

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of possession of a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Certificate issued by Oklahoma Drug Alcohol Professional Counselor’s Association or a similar certification and a bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, sociology or a closely related field and three years of professional experience under the supervision of a Certified Employee Assistance Professional in counseling, employee assistance or a closely related field or an equivalent combination or education and experience, substituting a master’s degree in one of the areas listed for one year of the required experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one additional year of qualifying experience for each year of the required bachelor’s degree.

Level II:             Code: C12B             Salary Band: M

This is the leadership level where employees are assigned responsibilities for the supervision of others and the management of the state employee assistance program. This includes developing policies, rules and procedures, consistent with state and federal laws and professional guidelines, and supervising and coordinating the activities of assigned staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities at this level are the same as identified in Level I plus knowledge of effective supervisory principles and practices.

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus one year of qualifying experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants for positions in this job family must be currently certified or eligible for certification as a Certified Employee Assistance Professional within six months of appointment.
