PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT PROCESS - 0.75 CEU


WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
This course teaches state agency managers and supervisors how to effectively use the state’s performance appraisal system, the Performance Management Process (PMP.) The course will also help participants orient their employees to the PMP.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Managers, supervisors and senior level professional/technical personnel. Anyone involved in competing the PMP form.

OBJECTIVES:

This course helps participants learn to use performance measurement in government. This course supports the concepts of Zero Budget Accountability and Performance Management.

Managers, supervisors, and key staff involved in measuring performance or managing performance-based budgets

OBJECTIVES:
Participants will:

  1. Define performance measurement, performance indicator, proxy measures, work process output, client benefit, strategic outcomes, and benchmarking.

PERSONNEL LAW VIDEO FESTIVAL

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
Personnel law continues to confound the most diligent of managers. Whether it be FMLA, FSLA, ADA, EEOC, EPA, ERISA, or whatever, the complexities and subtleties of personnel law require all public sector supervisors to be constantly updating their expertise. This course uses a series of video tapes prepared by the Institute of Applied Management and Law, Inc. to help state agency supervisors and managers enhance their working skills with respect to the most significant of the various federal laws relating to personnel. The course also involves a panel of state agency personnel experts to discuss direct application of personnel laws in state government.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Managers, supervisors, and professional staff involved with the application or interpretation of personnel laws in the workplace.

OBJECTIVES:
Participants will:

  1. Identify the key components of at least five federal personnel laws.
  2. List at least three key actions to take regarding a given personnel law.
  3. Given a situation or case, describe which personnel laws are involved and recommend what actions to take, if any.

PERSONNEL POLICIES
AND PRACTICES - 0.6 CEU


 

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
State agency managers and supervisors spend much of their time dealing with personnel issues--jobs and workers. The situations they face are as unique and as varied as the people involved. These personnel decisions are governed by a complex and changing system of laws, rules and policies. This workshop is designed to provide information and reference material concerning classification and compensation, recruitment and selection, and employee transactions.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: 
This course is designed primarily for managers and supervisors. Personnel and AA/EEO officers may also find this course helpful. BEFORE ATTENDING, PARTICIPANTS SHOULD FAMILIARIZE THEMSELVES WITH THE "MERIT RULES FOR EMPLOYMENT” AND THEIR AGENCY'S PERSONNEL POLICY MANUAL AND EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK.

OBJECTIVES:
Participants will:

  1. Identify the most important Merit Rule (530:10-3-2) and the most important supervisor's principle from the twelve principles identified in the workshop.
  2. Define assigned words using 530:10-1-2, Definitions in the Merit Rules.
  3. Identify the appropriate Merit Rule for selected workshop subjects using the Merit Rules Subject Index.
  4. Complete a certificate given certain information using the "hiring rule" principle.
