WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
The ability to delegate tasks and control productivity simultaneously is an essential skill for managers. This workshop will focus on the pitfalls that can undermine efforts to delegate and will provide some basic steps to help managers ease their workload through delegation while maintaining control.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Persons who manage an organizational unit or project team who want to improve their ability to delegate and establish a control system.

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
Creative problem solving is a skill that can be learned so that the potential of individuals and groups can be freed to produce high quality solutions. This workshop will focus on developing creative problem-solving skills with individuals and groups

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Managers, supervisors and professional/technical personnel who are involved in frequent problem solving and want to develop their creativity.

OBJECTIVES:
Participants will:

  1. Distinguish between an analytical versus a creative approach to problem solving.
  2. Identify the blocks to developing fresh ideas--especially their personal blocks.
  3. Apply a six-step method of problem solving to process during the course.
  4. Use at least two creative methods such as lateral thinking, reversal, brain writing, or mind mapping.

DEVELOPINGEFFECTIVE NEGOTIATION SKILLS- 0.6 CEU
 


WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
The appropriate and effective use of power and authority is a skill that is needed by all managers and supervisors, especially during situations involving negotiation. This workshop will help participants identify their own sources of power and how to develop additional sources of power. Participants will also practice negotiating skills that will aid in arriving at a mutually satisfactory agreement.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Managers, supervisors and senior level professional/technical personnel who want to increase their understanding of personal power and their negotiating skills.

OBJECTIVES:
Participants will:

1. Identify at least three sources of their own personal power.
2. Evaluate the ways they use their power, including non-verbally.
3. Identify and discuss several strategies for negotiation.
4. Apply at least two negotiating strategies in a practice situation

DISABILITY AWARENESS,(OFFICE OF DISABILITY CONCERNS) - 0.6 CEU

 


 

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
This workshop will explain different aspects of disability law, technical assistance, information and referral, employment and the Client Assistance Program (CAP). Participants from state agencies will receive general knowledge on where to direct employees with disability complaints and also of the supervisor's role regarding reasonable accommodation and disability etiquette.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Managers, supervisors, personnel/AA/EEO officers and all state employees.

OBJECTIVES:
Participants will:

  1. Review the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Rehabilitation Act, and other pertinent laws.
  2. Examine there responsibilities as a supervisor and the rights of those with disabilities.
  3. Describe employment and issues of employment of people with disabilities.
  4. Become familiar with the various services and referral sources available to people with disabilities.
  5. Define who is eligible for CAP.
  6. Describe types of services provided by the CAP program.
