ACCIDENT/INCIDENT INVESTIGATION - 0.6 CEU

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
State employers have an obligation to identify hazards in the workplace and develop controls designed to eliminate or protect employees and the public from those hazards.  Investigating scenarios of near-miss accidents and accidents with injury and/or property damage are important techniques used to fulfill this obligation.

The goal of this course is to provide supervisors with a basic knowledge of accident/incident investigation and its relationship to loss prevention in the overall Risk Management process.

OBJECTIVES:
1. Explain the purpose of accident/incident investigation
2. Recognize and use concepts relating to accident/incident investigation
3. Conduct an accident/incident investigation
4. Analyze data and determine root causes
5. Recommend corrective action and implement recommendations.

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
Understanding the nature and impact of administrative law is essential for effective management. The relationship of ethics at work, the legislative process, and agency rules and regulations are all interwoven with administrative law. This course provides managers with the information they need to understand the role that administrative law plays in the daily performance of their agency.

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
Problems are the reason managers work. No problems, no need for managers. This course expands on techniques taught in other creative problem courses plus provides practice in additional techniques. Examples of creative problem solving are provided via brief video stories.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
State agency managers, supervisors and key staff who must be continually finding ways to build a government that works better and costs less.

OBJECTIVES:
Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify at least three new creative problem-solving tools.
  2. List at least three actions the participant can take to ensure problems are viewed
    from a variety of viewpoints.
  3. Develop an action plan for using creative problem solving.

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
Leading others is one of the major skills required of supervisors and managers. This course was developed in part by several highly skilled state agency supervisors who recommended cases and situations that demonstrate proper leadership when supervising state employees. Participants will learn how to apply leadership skills to a variety of situations that might occur while working for the state of Oklahoma.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Managers, supervisors and professional staff who find themselves in leadership positions on a regular basis.

OBJECTIVES:
Participants will:

  1. Define leadership.
  2. List skills and abilities required of state agency supervisors.
  3. Discuss how to achieve effective leadership at work.
  4. Examine a variety of cases where leadership was either effective or ineffective.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION- 0.6 CEU


 

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
State employees continuously serve the public well and often develop processes which provide cost-savings to the state of Oklahoma. Although salary increases are determined by the State Legislature, there are other ways to recognize outstanding job performance and employee accomplishments. This workshop will provide information and ideas to help everyone in the workplace appropriately identify forms of employee recognition, which can be done legally and with little expense to the agency.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
This course is designed primarily for managers and supervisors to motivate and inspire employees by recognizing their accomplishments and job performance. However, the workshop will also cover peer recognition for non-supervisors.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Discuss the idea and appropriateness of award and recognition programs to state agencies.
  2. Describe how and why you should recognize employees.
  3. List guidelines for effective recognition.
