PERSONAL GROOMING SPECIALIST, Z40
Positions in the job family are involved in providing professional hair care services and other treatments to patients, inmates or residents of a state school, institution or facility.

This job family consists of two levels which are distinguished by the complexity of assignments, the level of expertise required to perform the duties assigned, and the responsibility assigned for providing leadership to others.
LEVEL I: Code: Z40A Salary Band: F
At this level employees are assigned routine duties in providing hair care, scalp and facial treatment services. In this role they will cut and shampoo hair, give manicures, facials, and other treatments, and will requisition needed supplies, keep supplies in a sanitary condition, and instruct patients, inmates and residents in basic skin care. Some positions may provide technical guidance to patients, inmates and residents in work activities. Some positions may arrange for community-based grooming services for patients and residents.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of beautician equipment, materials and methods; of barbering methods, techniques and equipment; of sanitary methods and procedures; and of care and maintenance of equipment and tools. Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and to follow oral and written instructions.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of possession of a current Oklahoma Barber’s License and six months of experience as a barber OR licensure by the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology as a beautician and six months of experience as a beautician.
LEVEL II: Code: Z40B Salary Band: G
This is the leadership level of this job family where employees are assigned responsibilities for directing and supervising the work activities and operations of a beauty or barber shop on a regular and consistent basis. Positions are assigned responsibility for the supervision of personnel, including planning and directing work, providing training and evaluating performance. Some position may provide direct supervision which includes additional responsibilities for employee development, approving leave and initiating disciplinary actions, as well as performing related administrative functions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level I plus additional knowledge of supervisory principles and practices; and of training methods and practices.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus 30 additional months of qualifying experience.
