TEACHING ASSISTANT, Z10
BASIC PURPOSE: Positions in this job family provide assistance to teaching staff in standard academic or commercial subjects, and to students in daily classroom activities or daily living skills in a state school, hospital, facility or institution.

Level I Code: Z10A Salary Band: D This job family consists of only one level and employees are responsible for performing all functions involving assisting teachers and students in daily classroom activities and in daily living skills. In this role, they will provide assistance to teaching staff by supervising student activities, distributing learning material to students, and preparing absentee reports and grading routine test papers. They will also provide assistance to students in basic living skills, with daily work assignments and in setting up assisted-learning equipment required by students.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required include knowledge of reading, writing and arithmetic at a level sufficient to instruct primary school children; and of learning disabilities. Ability is required to maintain effective working relationships with others; to maintain discipline; to interact positively with children with disabilities; and to prepare instructional materials and aides.
Education and Experience: None Required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Some positions with the Department of Rehabilitation Services require proficiency in American Sign Language. |
