RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES SPECIALIST, X35
BASIC PURPOSE: Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities related to planning, organizing, directing and conducting individual and group leisure-time and physical education activities in a hospital, institution or school.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS: The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:
LEVEL DESCRIPTORS: The Recreational Activities Specialist job family consists of three levels of work, which are distinguished by the depth and breadth of accountability, the expertise required to perform assigned duties and the responsibility assigned for providing leadership to others.
Level I: Code: X35A Salary Band: E This is the basic level of this job family where incumbents are assigned responsibilities for performing beginning level work under close supervision, in a training status to build their skills in planning and conducting recreational activities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of recreational, athletic and group work principles and techniques; of the fundamentals and rules of common sports; and of first aid treatment techniques. Ability is required to communicate orally; to conduct group activities; and to communicate effectively in writing.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of one year of experience in instructing/directing a community service or recreational program; or in closely related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Level II: Code: X35B Salary Band: H This is the career level where incumbents will be assigned responsibilities at the full performance level for performing duties at all levels of complexity and may provide training and guidance to others in completing various recreational activities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of recreational, athletic and group work principles and techniques; of the fundamentals and rules of common sports; and of first aid treatment techniques. Ability is required to conduct group activities; to supervise and instruct; to judge a situation accurately and adopt an effective course of action; and to act quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation or recreational therapy; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Level III: Code: X35C Salary Band: I This is the leadership level where incumbents will be assigned responsibilities for planning, organizing, and directing a comprehensive program of recreational activities and providing supervision to others.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of supervisory principles and practices; recreational, athletic and group work principles and techniques; of the fundamentals and rules of common sports; and of first aid treatment techniques. Ability is required to conduct group activities; to supervise and instruct; to judge a situation accurately and adopt an effective course of action; and to maintain interest in the positive improvement and development of socially maladjusted persons, both physically and mentally.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelors degree in physical education or in a closely related field and two years of experience in group physical education recreational therapy; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
