PHARMACIST, X26
BASIC PURPOSE: Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving professional work in the operation of a pharmacy at a state institution or facility.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS: The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:
LEVEL DESCRIPTORS: The Pharmacist job family consists of four levels which are distinguished by the depth and breadth of accountability, the expertise required to perform assigned duties and the responsibility for providing leadership to others.
Level I: Code: X26A Salary Band: K This is the basic level of the job family where incumbents performs beginning level professional work in the operation of a pharmacy at a state facility.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of prescription drugs and other medications; of procedures for compounding medicines; of controlled substances; of legal requirements concerning the filling and labeling of medications; of procedures for disposition of controlled medications; of the classification of drugs according to their action, use and dosage; and of pharmaceutical calculations used in weighting and measuring drugs. Ability is required to review and interpret prescriptions; to prepare medications according to physician requirements; to analyze the effects of various combinations of drugs; to establish effective working relationships with others; and to communicate effectively.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a valid license to practice pharmacy in the State of Oklahoma.
Level II: Code: X26B Salary Band: L This is the career level of the job family where incumbents perform professional work at the full performance level in the operation of a pharmacy at a state facility. Incumbents at this level may be assigned responsibilities for providing training or guidance to technicians or other assigned staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of prescription drugs and other medications; of procedures for compounding medicines; of controlled substances; of legal requirements concerning the filling and labeling of medications; of procedures for disposition of controlled medications; of the classification of drugs according to their action, use and dosage; and of pharmaceutical calculations used in weighting and measuring drugs. Ability is required to review and interpret prescriptions; to prepare medications according to physician requirements; to analyze the effects of various combinations of drugs; to establish effective working relationships with others; and to communicate effectively.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus one year of experience as a pharmacist.
Level III: Code: X26C Salary Band: M This is the specialist level of the job family where incumbents are assigned responsibilities involving advanced level professional work in the overall operation of a pharmacy or a satellite pharmacy. Responsibilities may include independent responsibility for pharmacy operations, making administrative decisions on budget requirements, providing for staff development, clinical intervention in individual patient therapy, serving as clinical pharmacist on the medical team and institutional committees, and recommending formulary changes based on pharmacoeconomics and pharmacotherapeutic data.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level II plus knowledge of the principles and practices of effective pharmaceutical care and clinical pharmacy including interpretation and evaluation of laboratory and other test results.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level II plus two additional years of experience as a pharmacist or a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree and a valid license to practice pharmacy in the state of Oklahoma.
Level IV: Code: X26D Salary Band: N This is the leadership level of the job family where incumbents are assigned responsibilities involving the overall direction and operation of a pharmacy at a state facility. Responsibilities may include direction or supervision of pharmacy staff, including supervisory staff at satellite pharmacies, making administrative decisions on budget requirements or staff development, serving institutional committees, and recommending formulary changes based on pharmacoeconomics and pharmacotherapeutic data.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level II plus knowledge of the principles and practices of effective of effective supervision.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level III plus one additional year of experience as a registered pharmacist or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree or a Master’s degree in Pharmacy Administration for two years of the required experience. |
