THERAPEUTIC/MEDICAL ASSISTANT, X12
BASIC PURPOSE: Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving providing assistance to higher level professionals in administering various medical or therapeutic programs, in evaluating standard diagnostic tests; in supervising and instructing an assigned group of patients in a planned therapeutic/medical program; in providing emergency medical services or treatment, and similar activities. Carefully prescribed procedures are adhered to while following standard treatment methods for completion of the therapy or other services in compliance with applicable licensure laws.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS: The functions within this job family may vary by level, but will include the following:
LEVEL DESCRIPTORS: The Therapeutic/Medical Assistant job family has two levels which are distinguished based on the complexity of the duties performed, the depth and breadth of accountability, and the expertise required to complete specific job assignments.
Level I: Code: X12A Salary Band: H This is the basic level where incumbents are assigned responsibilities involving entry level work and receive training within the area to which assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the basic principles, theories and practices of the medical or therapeutic techniques of the assigned program; of the use of materials, equipment and supplies used in therapeutic treatment and exercises; of anatomy and physiology; and of procedures and techniques used to evaluate and test individual or group skills and abilities. Ability is required to read and interpret test manuals; to establish rapport with subjects; to exercise sound judgment; to analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action; to organize and plan work; to comprehend and carry out complex oral and written instructions; to prepare written reports; to work with individuals and groups; to conduct interviews and tests; to use therapy equipment; and to administer individual and group therapy and activities.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a current license or registration in the appropriate field of work, such as a valid Oklahoma license as an Occupational Therapy Assistant issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision; a valid Oklahoma license as a Physical Therapy Assistant issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision; or current registration as a Radiological Technician or Emergency Medical Technician; or a bachelor’s degree in psychology or speech and hearing.
Level II: Code: X12B Salary Band: J This is the career level where incumbents perform duties and responsibilities at the full performance level in a specialization in one of the therapeutical/medical practices. Incumbents at this level may be designated as lead worker for Level I positions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the intermediate principles, theories and practices of therapeutic or medical or diagnostic techniques; of the use of materials, equipment and supplies used in medical and therapeutic treatment; of anatomy and physiology; of procedures and techniques used to evaluate and test individual or group skills and abilities; and of principles, theories and practices of functional supervisory techniques. Ability is required to read and interpret test manuals; to establish rapport with subjects; to exercise sound judgment; to analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action; to organize and plan work; to comprehend and carry out complex oral and written instructions; to prepare written reports; to work with individuals and groups; to conduct interviews and tests; to use therapy equipment; and to administer individual and group therapy and activities.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus three years of experience in one of the recognized therapeutical/medical practices.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS: Some positions may require specific education and/or certification/licensure in one of the recognized therapeutical/medical practices. |
