TRANSPORTATION SUPERINTENDENT, T26
BASIC PURPOSE: Positions in this job family are responsible for performing management and supervisory tasks for one or more highway maintenance units or supervising the maintenance operations for a turnpike.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS: The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:
LEVEL DESCRIPTORS: The Transportation Superintendent job family consists of two levels and incumbents are responsible for performing supervisory and management tasks for one or more maintenance units, sign shop, or a turnpike.
Level I: Code: T26A Salary Band: J This is the supervisory level of the Transportation Superintendent family where incumbents are assigned responsibility for the supervision of a maintenance crew operating power equipment and performing related maintenance and construction tasks. Positions at this level will be responsible for supervising a maintenance crew for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority or a specialized crew, such as traffic marking, sign erection or direct maintenance operations, at the Department of Transportation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the materials, equipment and techniques used in highway construction and maintenance of the placement of traffic control devices; of personnel regulations; of equipment and materials; of engineering plans and specifications for highways, bridges and traffic control devices; and of supervisory principles. Ability is required to communicate effectively; to anticipate maintenance problems; to conduct maintenance inspections; to train supervisors and employees in new procedures; and to plan workloads.
Education and Experience requirements consist of five years of experience in operating transportation equipment.
Level II: Code: T26B Salary Band: K This is the management level of the Transportation Superintendent family and incumbents are responsible for performing management and supervisory tasks for two or more specialized traffic crews, central sign shop, a county district, an interstate maintenance crew, a turnpike, or a heavy maintenance crew.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level are those identified in Level I, plus knowledge of budgetary controls; and of management techniques.
Education and Experience requirements are those identified at Level I plus one additional year of qualifying experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Some positions may require possession of a valid Oklahoma driver’s license at time of appointment in order to perform necessary travel.
The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority requires possession of a valid Oklahoma commercial driver’s license, class A, at time of appointment. Some positions at the Oklahoma Department of Transportation may require a class A commercial driver’s license at the time of appointment.
Some agencies may require applicants to take and pass a drug test prior to appointment. Such tests will be administered through the appointing authority. This requirement is referenced in 49 Code of Federal Regulations, parts 40 and 382.
Applicants must be willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position; may be required to work hours other than on regular shifts during emergency situations; and possess a telephone in residence to receive emergency on-call duty messages.
While performing the duties of this job, the employees are frequently required to stand, walk and reach; and talk and hear. Routinely, employees are required to sit; to manipulate or feel objects, tools or controls; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
Employees may be required to regularly lift 80 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities may be required by this job and include close vision, distance, peripheral vision and depth perception. |
