CORRECTIONAL TEACHER, I23
BASIC PURPOSE: Positions within this job family are assigned responsibilities for performing professional teaching work at the elementary or secondary level in a correctional institution or facility; applies special methods and techniques in the habilitation of inmates.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS: The Correctional Teacher job family consists of two levels which are distinguished by type and complexity of work and the responsibility assigned for the supervision of others.
Level I: Code: I23A Salary Band: N/A This is the career level where incumbents are assigned to perform program delivery of educational programs to inmates at the full performance level. Incumbents at this level will not provide functional or direct supervision to others.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of modern principles, practices and materials in the specialized field of education; of the content matter in the area of instruction; and of accepted methods of teaching special children. Ability is required to supervise and instruct pupils; to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others; to organize and present facts and opinions clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and to develop and present a curriculum.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree and possession of a current Oklahoma Teaching Certificate.
Level II: Code: I23B Salary Band: N/A This is the leadership level where incumbents are responsible for performing advanced level educational work that is complex and difficult. Responsibilities also include functioning as a lead worker with limited supervisory duties. There is only one position at each institution or facility at this level.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of modern principles, practices and materials in the specialized field of education; of school administration principles and practices; of the content matter in the area of instruction; of accepted methods of teaching adult students; and of evaluating critically and objectively the educational needs and achievements of the students. Ability is required to supervise and instruct pupils; to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others; to organize and present facts and opinions clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; to maintain discipline in the classroom; and to develop and present a curriculum.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a master’s degree in education and possession of a current Oklahoma Teaching Certificate. |
