ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN, F56

BASIC PURPOSE:

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving skilled electronics diagnosis, repair and maintenance of various electronic testing, training aids and other electronic components and devices, such as film projectors, tape recorders, vision screeners, training simulators, radio components, and testing equipment.  Assigned tasks are generally defined and incumbents are responsible for determining the best method for completing repairs or other work.

 

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

    •     Maintains, repairs and services electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment, such as film and slide projectors, reel and cassette video tape recorders and cameras (both portable and studio type), battery chargers, sound/visual mixers, vision screeners, driver-trainer-examiner simulators, electronic item-response testing equipment and various tape recorders and public address equipment, such as mikes, amplifiers, speakers and related items; trouble shoots and repairs those pieces of equipment that can be repaired at the agency; returns those pieces to the appropriate service centers that cannot be repaired at the agency; performs appropriate repairs and/or adjustments to mobile equipment.
    •     Sets-up and operates various equipment for training, testing, education or informational purposes, such as screens, projectors, recorders, cameras, electronic response and public address equipment.
    •     Maintains an adequate stock of spare parts, tools, supplies and manuals; keeps records and inventory on the receipt and issuance of supplies, equipment and tools and makes periodic reports to the appropriate supervisor.
    •      Installs radios, sirens, lightbars and other electronics equipment in agency vehicles.

 

LEVEL DESCRIPTOR:

The Electronics Technician job family consists of two levels which are distinguished by the level of complexity of the assigned duties and responsibilities, and for providing leadership to others.

 

Level I:                                                 Code:  F56A                             Salary Band:  H

This is the career or journey level where incumbents perform the full range of electronics technician duties.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the maintenance and repair of various types of electronics equipment; of the tools and test equipment used in electrical/electronic and mechanical repair of training equipment; of schematic symbols and diagrams; and of record keeping.  Ability is required to maintain, adjust, operate and repair electrical/electronic and mechanical training, testing, educational and other electronic devices.

 

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of three years of skilled-level experience in electronics repair work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of education/training in the electronics field for each year of the required experience.

 

Level II:                                               Code:  F56B                             Salary Band:   I

This is the leadership level where employees serve as a supervisor and perform the most technical or difficult electronics technician tasks.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level I plus knowledge of supervisory practices and principles and the ability to supervise and coordinate the work of others.

 

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus one additional year of qualifying experience.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
