GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS MANAGER - B26 BASIC PURPOSE: Positions in this family are responsible for planning, managing, organizing, supervising, and coordinating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) functions. These individuals will be responsible for overseeing program needs and ensuring that adequate resources are available to meet the GIS needs for an agency. TYPICAL FUNCTIONS: The functions performed within this job family will vary by level and organization, but may include the following: LEVEL DESCRIPTORS: The Geographic Information Systems Manager job family has two levels that are distinguished by the complexity and sophistication of work performed, the span of control of supervised personnel and the number and range of areas coordinated. Level I: Code: B26A Salary Band: M Knowledge, Skills and Abilities requirements at this level include knowledge of geographic information systems and their development and use in state government; of current trends in the field of GIS; and of project management. Ability is required to direct, train and evaluate personnel; to plan and manage budget information; to establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships with others; to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; to develop and implement training programs; to analyze complex and challenging situations; and to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems (GIS), geography, geology, cartography, natural resources, computer science, engineering, environmental science or a closely related field and four years of professional level experience in GIS systems work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of technical experience in GIS work for each year of the required education; or a master’s degree in geographic information systems (GIS), geography, geology, cartography, natural resources, computer science, engineering, environmental science and three years of professional level experience in GIS work. Level II: Code: B26B Salary Band: N Knowledge, Skills and Abilities requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I. Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus two additional years of professional level experience in GIS systems work including one year in a supervisory capacity. |
