Governor's Advisory Council on Latin American and Hispanic Affairs

The Governor's Advisory Council on Latin American and Hispanic Affairs was established to provide advice regarding the development and implementation of policies, plans, and programs relating to the special needs of Hispanics. This Council also makes a concerted effort toward increasing statewide public awareness of problems surrounding Hispanics and expands opportunities for Oklahoma Hispanics in education, employment, health, housing, culture, and recreation.

On October 17, 2002, the Governor's Advisory Council on Latin American and Hispanic Affairs hosted the first Oklahoma Issues Summit, which attracted participants from state and community agencies, schools districts, volunteer organizations, and the general public. Governor Frank Keating delivered the luncheon keynote address.

The council held the Hispanic/Latino Community Leaders 2006 Summit on October 14, 2006. The objectives of this Summit were to provide an environment where group leaders could meet to share ideas, and identify agencies and non-profit groups in the state that offer services to the Hispanic community.

All Council members are appointed by the Governor.
