Classification - Management Services Department
Who We Are
The Classification Team is assigned responsibilities involving the classification of both jobs and employees in the state merit system. In this role, team members perform job audits to identify work performed by state employees, develop job family descriptors to be used to describe this work, allocate positions to the appropriate job family descriptor, and insure that employees are classified based on position allocations. Responsibilities also include maintaining a position management system to identify all positions established in the executive branch of state government, establishing unclassified positions as authorized by statute or executive order, maintaining job codes for use with unclassified positions, and reviewing agency personnel actions to insure compliance with the Oklahoma Personnel Act and the Merit Rules for Personnel Administration. Classification Team members also provide consultation to agencies and other OPM divisions as needed on a variety of issues concerning Human Resource management and the recruitment and retention of employees in state service.
Products and Services We Provide
Members of the Classification Team maintain a classification system for all classified state employees made up of approximately 369 Job Families with over 900 levels.
Classification Team members provide staff support to the Oklahoma Compensation and Unclassified Positions Review Board which meets in December of each year with additional meetings as necessary to review Merit agency proposals to add unclassified positions to the state service.
