The Oklahoma Film & Music Office would like to extend an enormous thanks to the sponsors, performers, and individuals that helped make the Buffalo Lounge at SXSW 2011 such a success. Our Oklahoma group took the trip down to Austin to take over Friends on 6th Street, revamp it as the Buffalo Lounge, and show festival attendees the talent and attributes our state has to offer.
The Buffalo Lounge hosted music, interactive, and film events to give Oklahomans the opportunity to network and strut their stuff. Also housed inside the lounge was a swag stand, interview lounge, and pop-up store full of Okie merchandise by Dwelling Spaces.
Kicking off the week’s festivities on Monday, March 14 was the Red Dirt Reel, where independent filmmakers and other film pros had the opportunity to learn more about Oklahoma’s diverse locations, 37% cash back rebate program geared toward indies, financing and production companies, distribution companies, and film festivals.
Open Beta 6 was held Monday evening, bringing together Oklahoma’s top interactive companies and featuring food, drinks, lighting talks from representatives from about a dozen Oklahoma companies, music from DJ Ostara and a presentation by Kent Savage, Oklahoma native and founder of www.FameCast.com.
Okie Soundcheck, the first music event, took place Tuesday evening and featured food, drinks, and Oklahoma’s best up-and-coming bands. Rocking the venue were Brine Webb, Josh Roberts, Ryan Lawson, The SKYS, Jabee, Jacob Abello, Rainbows are Free, DEERPEOPLE and The Non.
Wednesday afternoon, the 3rd Annual Sax, Clogs, & Rock-n-Roll music event was headlined by Audra Mae. Also performing were John Fullbright, Sherree Chamberlain, Emory Grey, Ben Kilgore, Fiawna Forte, and Kite Flying Robot.
The first official Oklahoma Showcase was held Wednesday evening and featured a smash hit lineup of Oklahoma talent. Headlined by Graham Colton, the showcase featured Broncho, Colourmusic, The Pretty Black Chains, OK Sweetheart and the Boom Bang.
Wrapping up the week’s events on Thursday afternoon was Tate Music Group Presents, where attendees enjoyed food and drinks while checking out the artists signed with Oklahoma’s Tate Music Group.
More information about the events, performers, and sponsors can be found on the Buffalo Lounge Facebook Page.
