| WHAT ARE THE STATE'S INVESTMENT EARNINGS? Investing for You The State Treasurer invests state funds to generate earnings to offset the need for more tax dollars. Every dollar generated by the treasurer's investments is one less tax dollar that is needed to pay for state services for the people. The money earned each year on the treasurer's investments is, for example, enough to pay the annual salaries of thousands of Oklahoma school teachers and Highway Patrol troopers. Big ResultsThe top priority on all state investments is safety. The treasurer invests tax dollars so that no money is lost. The next priority is making sure the investments can be quickly turned into cash to pay the state's bills. The final priority is gaining as much investment income as is possible. Over the past 5 years, the portfolio has been modernized to increase earnings as much as is safely possible earnings.
