As part of National Child Passenger Safety Week, September 12-18, 2009, Saturday September 12th was designated as Seat Check Saturday nationwide. On that day, child car seat checkup events were be held at ten locations throughout Oklahoma, including: Altus, Antlers, Battiest, Bixby, Edmond, Oklahoma City, Sayre, Shawnee and Tulsa.  Three other events were held on other days during the week at Anadarko, Atoka and Tahlequah.  At these events, which were free and open to the public, anyone could have their car seat checked by trained technicians for proper installation and use. There were also a limited number of free car seats available for give-away to needy families at each checkup event.
