Counterfeit Check Scam Notice

In 2009 members of the public reported to the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission (“OESC”) that they received counterfeit checks that appeared to be from the OESC. There is another check scam going on in other states and we are reposting this message. The checks were being sent to individuals for the purchase of merchandise. They are not counterfeit unemployment checks. If you received an unexpected or unexplained check from the OESC and want to validate the check, please fax a copy of the check and any accompanying documents to (405) 557-7271. Please include your telephone number with the faxed material, so an OESC representative can contact you. If you do not have access to a fax machine or have a question regarding an OESC check, please call (405) 557-5362. OESC will report any counterfeit checks to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
