Informal Opinions
In addition to ethics interpretations, the Commission has also authorized its staff to issue informal opinions under conditions specified in Section 257:1-1-6(g):
The executive director or the general counsel may issue informal written opinions, as time permits and with the prior approval of the chair or vice chair, pertaining to the provisions of this title on questions that are susceptible to a single analysis by the clear language of the rule and are not the subject of litigation, investigation or legislation. The Commission shall publish informal written opinions annually; provided that sufficient deletions shall be made by the Commission in published informal written opinions or informal written opinions made available to the public to prevent the disclosure of the identity of the person or persons involved in the situations presented in the informal written opinions...
