Substance Abuse

Substance Abuse Treatment Programs

The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) Substance Abuse Recovery Division's (SARD) goal is to provide persistent, incremental improvements in the quality and effectiveness of substance abuse treatment which results in better recovery for more people.  SARD embraces that "recovery is a reality" and that it gives back to individuals, families and communities what addiction has taken away.  SARD contracts with 84 substance abuse providers, operates 5 state residential treatment facilities, has 9 gambling contracts and is in partnerships with 3 advocacy organizations.  These facilities are located throughout the state and offer services to all individuals and their families in need of treatment and support services.  Services provided are designed to meet an individual's need through the provision of assessments, referrals, detoxification, outpatient counseling, residential treatment, substance abuse education, transitional living, and aftercare services.  SARD also offers programs that are designed for special populations, such as criminal justice, women with children, adolescents, Hispanics and Native Americans.

To view an on-line listing of substance abuse facilities across the nation, including Oklahoma, visit the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Internet site: www.findtreatment.samhsa.gov. This site lists federal, state, local, and private facilities that provide drug abuse and alcoholism treatment services and includes locator maps.

Oklahoma Drug and Mental Health Courts

Oklahoma’s drug court programs provide a highly-structured alternative to incarceration for eligible offenders in the criminal justice system.

ADSAC

ADSAC is an acronym for Alcohol and Drug, Substance Abuse Course and is a standardized intervention for license reinstatement.

Problem and Compulsive Gambling Addiction

Compulsive gambling or pathological gambling, a psychological disorder characterized by a persistent inability to resist the impulse to gamble. Oklahoma provides services to adults and adolescents with gambling related disorders/problems.

Tobacco Cessation

The Tobacco Cessation Project is a technical assistance program of the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services that assists service systems and direct-service providers with the design and implementation of evidence-based tobacco cessation interventions within the agencies and organizations funded by the department.  The project is made available through a partnership with the Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust and the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
